"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." ~ Aesop

When the COVID-19 crisis hit Singapore, we all felt a wave of helplessness. The world as we knew it had changed overnight, and uncertainty loomed over us. But in times of hardship, even the smallest gesture can bring light—and that’s exactly what my lovely friends from Singapore American School (Anu, Deepa, Aditi, Puja, Meeta, Vineeta, and I) set out to do.

What started as a simple thought soon turned into a meaningful initiative. We decided to start a food bank with home-cooked meals for the migrant workers in Little India—a small way to express our gratitude for their hard work and contributions to Singapore, our homeland.

This small act of kindness grew into something bigger. Through the circuit breaker, we provided home-cooked meals to 60 workers on weekends and ensured that 25 workers received dry food, essentials, and small financial aid throughout the week. In doing so, we also supported small restaurants, helping them stay afloat in those difficult times.

I am deeply grateful to this incredible group of friends who kept this initiative alive despite the challenges. Their unwavering commitment and big hearts made all the difference as the circuit breaker extended. A special thank you to the amazing school moms and generous donors who contributed week after week—it truly takes a village!

The day before the circuit breaker, two of my wonderful clients (pictured with me) helped pack all the groceries, while my two champion staff, Kalim & Naresh, have been instrumental in distributing food and essentials. Their dedication and kindness inspire me every single day.

This journey has been a beautiful reminder that kindness doesn’t need to be grand—it just needs to be genuine. A small action, a helping hand, or a warm meal can make a world of difference to someone in need.

So go ahead—do something small today. Because really, that’s all it takes.

During this time, we also saw the resilience of small businesses, including Indian boutiques in Singapore that have long been part of the community. Many local designers and artisans faced challenges but continued to bring traditional and contemporary Indian fashion to the people. The rich heritage of Indian clothing, from intricate embroidery to elegant silhouettes, remains a significant part of Singapore's diverse fashion scene, embraced by many beyond the Indian community.

Acts of kindness, whether through supporting those in need or helping small businesses stay afloat, remind us that we are all connected. As we continue moving forward, let us cherish and uplift each other in every way we can.
