Being a Small Business Owner Post-COVID: Challenges & Resilience

Written by CEO Soniyah Sidhu

Not only does this role ask for focus and passion, but it requires a certain kind of resilience & courage to fathom & deal with all the setbacks and challenges along the way.

Sadly, COVID has been one such major challenge. As I see small businesses in Singapore struggling, I reflect on the last four months and think about what's keeping Studioj by Jinders  together & making it stronger.

These are my takeaways:

1. Sheer Determination & Hard Work

I lead by example when it comes to working hard and prioritize work over everything else. Ask my incredible friends who know I'm unavailable for social commitments & accept me for who I am. Ask my family who knows I won't be available for late-night Zoom calls as I'm totally knackered. I am blessed to have them indeed.

2. Unlearning & Learning All Over Again

Unlearning retail as being the only way to sell & embracing the digital world as the next place to be.

I remember when my family pushed me to sell Indian ethnic wear online in Singapore, I resisted as I felt I had too much on my plate. Now, here I am, creating content daily & growing my Instagram and Facebook tribe. Thanks to each and every person who has recommended, shared, liked, commented & bought from us, watched our Live videos, and engaged with our content. I truly appreciate all your support.

3. Back to School

Taking courses to reinvent my skills and learn digital marketing. It's been a remarkable ride & I love how we celebrate each other's small successes.

4. I Have No Plan B

When it comes to making Studioj by Jinders a success story, I have no Plan B—so I make sure Plan A works.

5. My Strength Comes from My Family, Friends & Staff

They have seen me go insane, crazy, and all over the place through this process. Burning the midnight oil, glued to the computer endlessly learning & unlearning, bringing them new ideas to discuss. They have stood by me like a rock.

6. Facing the Camera to Create Content

All my near and dear ones know that I'm a sucker when it comes to getting dolled up. I'd rather be in shorts & chilling. But here I am, learning to be in front of the camera to create daily content for our Indian fashion store in Singapore.

7. The Attitude of Gratitude

I'm so grateful for having the courage & opportunity to move ahead & am grateful for all of you in my life.

Hehehehe… don’t miss my little video in the bottom corner where I'm doing an online consultation in shorts. 😆 The client was so sweet to even tell me that I looked very cute! Loll! Click to Watch
